What’s the best fight for Conor Benn to take next?

What’s the best move for rising star Conor Benn to make next?

Tony Sims
Conor Benn’s trainer

I want to get him back out in July. We’ll see what’s on the table and what’s best for him. There are some big names in the welterweight division [but] he’s still on a learning curve, he’s still developing, he’s still 24. I’ll develop him until the time I think is right for him to fight the big names. I just want to do what I think is right for Conor.

Natasha Jonas
World title challenger

I think David Avaneysan, the European welterweight champion, or Michael McKinson, who just beat Chris Kongo.

Ekow Essuman
Welterweight prospect

A fight between myself, Chris Jenkins or Josh Kelly. You’d think he’d be having his sights on the British title still but he seems to have swerved it for now. On the international scene maybe a fight with David Avanesyan. It should be easy to make as they’re both with Matchroom.

David Avanesyan. Challenging for the European title would be a perfect next fight for Benn and, crucially, it appears that Avanesyan is willing to give him a shot.

Paul Ready
Boxing manager

Someone like Chris Van Heerden. He needs the rounds, that’s where he’s going to continue to develop. I don’t think he’s ready for [Shawn] Porter. Amir Khan’s going to want too much money. A former world title challenger in the winter of their career but has still got the ring smarts is going to be a good option for him.
