Tottenham to heavily subsidise Jose Mourinho’s first-year wages at Roma

Tottenham to heavily subsidise Jose Mourinho’s first-year wages at Roma

An insight into the financial details of the contract struck up between Jose Mourinho and AS Roma has been forthcoming online this evening.

Italian job

The shock news surrounding legendary tactician Mourinho’s latest move of course arrived this afternoon.

Just last month, the Portuguese was relieved of his duties on the bench at Premier League outfit Tottenham.

Two weeks later, though, Mourinho’s return to management was made official.

The ex-Inter Milan, Porto and Chelsea boss has been chosen to take up the reins at AS Roma, ahead of the 2021-22 campaign.

This comes ahead of the imminent expiration of the terms of current Giallorossi boss Paulo Fonseca.

Spurs to contribute

One question which immediately began to do the rounds on the back of Mourinho’s appointment at the Stadio Olimpico, though, surrounded how exactly Roma managed to stump up the required financials to pay him.

Mou has long been known to demand one of the most sizable pay packets of any tactician on the planet, with the Serie A outfit, conversely, not exactly flush with cash.

As outlined above, though, this evening, an insight into the situation has been forthcoming.

As per Italian football expert Gianluca Di Marzio, Mourinho has agreed to a 3-year deal, worth €7.5 million-per-season, plus bonuses.

Significantly, though, this sum will rise to a full €16 million next season, courtesy of the input of former employers Tottenham.

To make up for the funds Mourinho would have been owed prior to the termination of his contract in north London, Spurs have agreed to cough up an additional €9 million in 2021/22.
