Arsenal’s latest Hale End star:
20-year-old Emile Smith Rowe is the latest high-profile player to come out of Arsenal’s famous Hale End academy, and has been a key part of the senior side this season. Having spent the second half of last season on loan with Championship side Huddersfield, the young Englishman has been vital in Arsenal’s upturn in form since Christmas, netting two Premier League goals and providing some much-needed creativity to Mikel Arteta’s side.
Smith Rowe netted the only goal of the game as the Gunners completed a Premier League double over Chelsea last night, and his mature performance had fans expressing concern about tying down their latest star to a new deal – his current contract is due to expire in 2023. Whilst the England Under-21 international has not set the goalscoring charts ablaze since his introduction at the Emirates, his performances have been key to the Gunners’ improvement.

Alongside fellow attacking midfielder Martin Odegaard, Smith Rowe has helped Arsenal to recover somewhat from a disastrous start to the season, which saw them slip as low as 15th place. Although he remains young, there is a maturity that accompanies the midfielder’s game which belies his minimal playing time at senior level.
Reports new deal is in the pipeline:
Despite Arsenal fans’ fears, reliable reports have emerged over the last 24 hours that the Gunners are close to agreeing a new long-term deal to keep Smith Rowe at the club.

As the reliable David Ornstein reports, the Englishman has worked his way into Arsenal’s plans for the future, and is now considered a “central” part of the side. With Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli also on their books, Arsenal boast the pieces of a promising young core, and will need to find the correct balance of experience and youth in the upcoming summer window.
Arsenal are working since March to extend Emile Smith-Rowe’s contract, there’s ‘optimism’ to complete the agreement soon. The player is happy and open to stay – five years contract on the table. ⚪️🔴 #AFC #Arsenal https://t.co/0oLWSdBGFP

According to Fabrizio Romano, the new contract will be a five-year agreement, thus tying Smith Rowe to the club until 2026. It seems a fair reward for a player that is only continuing to improve in red and white, and who will surely be a starter for years to come.
