Man United’s Marcus Rashford concedes he struggled to play his best football under Jose Mourinho

Man United’s Marcus Rashford concedes he struggled to play his best football under Jose Mourinho

Jose Mourinho & Man United

Jose Mourinho was of course the manager of Manchester United between the summer of 2016 and December of 2018.

And, despite a fairly poor end to his stint with the club, the Portuguese, at present, remains United’s most successful manager in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era.

His Premier League points total of 81 in the 2017/18 campaign remains the Reds’ highest since Ferguson’s days, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s current side requiring wins from all of their remaining four fixtures to go one better.

Mourinho also secured two of the Manchester outfit’s three trophies since 2013, with Louis van Gaal having overseen the other.

The Portuguese, though, as proves the case at every club he goes to, left under something of a cloud.

Rashford on Jose Mourinho

Much like at Tottenham, United’s fans grew frustrated with Mourinho’s rather stale, pragmatic style, which of course often limits attackers.

In turn, now, Marcus Rashford, who featured under Mourinho at Old Trafford, has opened up on the soon-to-be Roma boss.

And the England international unsurprisingly revealed his take that it proved difficult to play his best football under Mourinho.

Speaking to BT Sport, Rashford explained:

“I think that’s when we play our best football (when we can be flexible).

“Under Jose I would say everything was a bit (points) ‘you play there, you play there, you play there’.

“And yeah, you can do a job, but it was difficult for me to play my best football.”
