Man United pair Amad Diallo & Mason Greenwood equalled a 15-year old PL benchmark vs Leicester

Manchester United’s equaliser versus Leicester City this evening saw young duo Mason Greenwood and Amad Diallo etch their respective names into Premier League history.

All square

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men are of course currently locked in action with the Foxes at Old Trafford.

The clash is of little importance to the Red Devils, who locked up a top-4 berth courtesy of a 3-1 downing of Aston Villa at the weekend.

For Leicester, though, their trip to the Theatre of Dreams is absolutely integral to the club’s season goals.

This comes with Brendan Rodgers and co. having defied the odds to this point in the campaign, to remain in the thick of the battle for Champions League football.

Ahead of kick-off, the Foxes sat in 4th, a point adrift of Chelsea, and five clear of West Ham in 5th.

And, as things stand in Manchester, despite Ole Gunnar Solskjaer having opted for no less than ten changes to the side which got the better of Villa, Leicester are on their way to just a solitary point.

The visitors opened the evening’s scoring with 10 minutes on the clock, when Luke Thomas got on the end of Youri Tielemans’ delivery to direct a wonderful volley into the top corner of David de Gea’s goal:

Hosts United, though, quickly hit back, when Amad Diallo slipped Mason Greenwood in to dance beyond Leicester’s backline, and slot confidently into the far corner.

Reds talents combine

And, as outlined above, Greenwood’s latest strike proved a significant one not only in dragging the Red Devils on level terms this evening.

As revealed by statisticians OptaJoe, the United attacker, and teammate Diallo, have become the first teenage duo to combine for a Premier League goal since all the way back in 2006.

The last two players to do so were David Wheater and Adam Johnson, for Middlesbrough:
