Harry Kane: Real Madrid are ‘interested’ & Man United are ‘big admirers’

The transfer saga surrounding Harry Kane is set to intensify this summer with both Real Madrid and Man United in the running to sign him.

Kane wants ‘team trophies’

Tottenham striker Harry Kane has been with the club for a number of years now, but has yet to win a major trophy.

Defeat in the League Cup final at the weekend was another damaging blow to Spurs’ fans hopes that the England captain may remain with the club this summer.

Kane was named the Player of the Year at the London Football Awards, and whilst he was grateful for the accolade, the attacker appeared more focused on the idea of winning team trophies.

“When I look back at the end of my career, these are all the things I’ll go over and take in a little bit more, but the goal right now as a player is to win team trophies,” he said.

“As much as this is great, I want to be winning the biggest team prizes. We’re not quite doing that. It’s bittersweet, but it is what it is. I’m proud to win [Premier League Player of the Year], it’s been a good season on the pitch.”

Spurs currently sit outside of the Premier League’s top-4, and not participating in any other cup competitions this season, having been eliminated from the FA Cup and Europa League.

This could therefore be a ‘come and get me’ plea on Kane’s part, to clubs with the capacity to win silverware.

Interested parties

It is therefore unsurprising to see links to some of the major clubs across Europe follow.

The Times say that Real Madrid are ‘interested’ in Kane, whilst Manchester United are ‘admirers’.

Kane has big admirers on the Manchester United board and Real Madrid are said to be interested, though Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland is also likely to be on the move this summer.

At Manchester United, Edinson Cavani is likely to leave. United have an option to extend the Uruguayan’s terms for a further year, however the striker is reported to want a move to Boca Juniors this summer.

This would open a gap for investment in the centre-forward role at Old Trafford, and Kane would require little-to-no transition period in coming from a Premier League rival.

Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema, now 33, has taken on the role of lead protagonist at the club since the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo.

His performances have aided in minimising the loss of the Portuguese titan.

However, with just a year left on his current deal, thoughts will soon turn to finding Benzema’s replacement. Links to Erling Haaland are aplenty, however Kane may be a lower risk option, already in his prime and a consistent goalscorer at the top level.

Another summer of chaos awaits. 101 will keep you fully up to date with all the latest.
