Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang snapped his scoring drought in the Premier League with two goals in Arsenal’s 3-0 win over Newcastle at Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal’s Key Players in the Win

The Arsenal captain needed to fill the gaps in scoring for his team since December 16. Aubameyang only scored three goals this season which marred the much-needed sparkle of Arsenal when it comes to offense.

The French-Gabonese striker tried to look for the open kicks, but the first half was not enough for Aubameyang to contribute for the Gunners. Midfielder Thomas Partey searched Aubameyang’s possible spot for the game’s first goal and it left the captain in a man-to-man set-up with Magpies defender Emil Krafth.

It’s already a 45-minute give-and-take with still no goals fired for the two teams. Aubameyang slashed the lanes and drove an electrical kick at the post, through goalie Karl Darlow. for Arsenal’s first goal at the 50th mark. The Gabon national team captain celebrated with his trademark front-flip.

According to SuperSport, the thunderous duo of Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe played a crucial part in the play, with Saka who knocked down the second goal 10 minutes after Aubameyang’s elusive goal.

Rushing for a quick pass, Smith Rowe rekindled his force to break the defenders in the left-wing area. Saka hurtled past the Newcastle to end up converting his first goal on a high note, from an assist by Smith Rowe for the 2-0 lead.

The Gunners could have relied on Willian da Silva and Nicolas Pepe, but it seemed that the two could not keep up with the pace of the game. Arsenal managed to continue the remaining minutes with the help of younger Gunners Saka and Smith Rowe, who were later praised by the fans.

Smith Rower said that Saka gave him so much confidence since they played together at a tender age.

The last Arsenal goal came from Aubameyang in the 77th-minute mark after defender Cedric Soares regained the ball possession at the side of the net. Soares kicked in the midfield only for Aubameyang to boot his second goal with a weak flick for a dominant 3-0 edge over Newcastle.

After a sloppy start, Aubameyang has now four goals in the last six games. The last time the 2019 Premier League Golden Boot honoree notched twin goals was when Arsenal won the FA Cup Final against Chelsea, 2-1 in 2020, the Guardian reported.

Aubameyang could have grabbed the chance to score a hat-trick only if he has not been “called by nature.”

Newcastle fought back in the 24th with Miguel Almiron passing Partey. The Paraguayan midfielder scampered to Andy Carroll to arrange his decisive shot which extended above the bar.

The absence of winger Allan Saint-Maximin made the Magpies even more brittle in attacks. Saint-Maximin missed seven weeks of action after testing positive with COVID-19.But, according to Sky Sports, he now returns to training after his COVID-19 struggle.

Arsenal will now face Southampton in their next game. On Saturday, their opponent is to be determined for the fourth round of the FA Cup.
